Qualified Opportunity Zones
Invest in Growth. Reduce Your Taxes.
Qualified Opportunity Zone investments offer a unique opportunity to defer and potentially reduce capital gains taxes while investing in designated communities poised for economic growth.
What are Qualified Opportunity Zones?
Qualified Opportunity Zones (QOZs) were created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 to encourage long-term investment in low-income communities. There are over 8,700 designated zones across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.
By investing capital gains into a Qualified Opportunity Fund (QOF), investors can access three distinct tax benefits: deferral of existing gains, reduction of those gains, and potential elimination of taxes on new appreciation.
Unlike 1031 Exchanges, QOZ investments can accept capital gains from any source - stocks, businesses, real estate, or other assets - making them incredibly versatile for tax planning.
The Three Tax Benefits
1. Deferral
Defer capital gains taxes until December 31, 2026, or until you sell your QOZ investment.
2. Reduction
For investments made before 2022, receive up to 15% reduction on deferred gains after 7 years.
3. Elimination
Hold for 10+ years and pay zero taxes on appreciation within the QOZ investment.

Tax-Free Appreciation
Hold for 10+ years and pay zero federal taxes on any appreciation within the QOZ investment.
180-Day Window

Growth-Focused Areas
QOZs are designated in areas with strong economic development potential, offering upside opportunity.
Partial Investment Allowed
Invest any portion of your gains - you don't need to reinvest 100% like a 1031 Exchange.
Social Impact
Your investment supports community development and job creation in underserved areas.
